Christmas Soldier Program

In conjunction with Smoky Mountain Authors (click here for their website), I am proud to announce that we are the new parents of 150 male soldiers and 25 female soldiers overseas this year. Support our Christmas Soldier Program and help out your troops! We are encouraging you to DONATE!
These soldiers are stationed in Afghanistan in various outposts outside of any major military facility. Our soldiers are living in tents with limited water supply, limited food supply, and no laundry facilities. This means no restrooms, no showers, no place for our soldiers to clean off. Some sites have no entertainment and the way they prepare their food is microwave or jet boil. One or two sites may have a stove. They wash their clothes maybe once a week in buckets of water and laundry soap and shower using baby wipes. Females must keep their hair in military standards and some of these women are ethnic and must use hair gels, hair ties, and mousse, which is all in short supply. (Needless to say, the females must take care of their own feminine product issues while stationed in an outpost as well.)
On behalf of numerous soldiers and sailors currently stationed in Afghanistan for the Christmas holiday, please donate. I remember everyday that I am privileged enough to come to work, or sit at home, warm, and with my family, while these men and women are overseas fighting for my right to be here, right now. It’s our turn to return the favor. Remember why they are there and support them too! Any item you can donate is welcomed and our soldiers do appreciate it.
We are currently taking donations of nonperishable foods, feminine products, and shower kits for our soldiers overseas during this holiday season. Two shipments will be made; one on December 15th and one on January 1st. If you are making a cash donation via the button on the right your money will be used to purchase the listed items for the soldiers. If you live in the WNC area send us a message here and we'll come pick up your donations!

Veteran's Day

Today is Veteran's Day. For me it is a day of remembrance for all those that I served with in the U.S. Navy. Some are still with us here today enjoying their time still serving this country. Some are proud and retired or honorably discharged like myself. Others gave the greatest gift they could possibly give; they sacrificed their lives for you and I.

Please remember to thank a soldier or sailor today of all days. Thank them for doing what they do and doing what they did.

We are American's because of the sacrifices made by these men and women in the past, present, and future. Don't forget a thanks for those families that wait ever so patiently for their loved ones to come home too.

Best. Twitter. Ever.

This is a little off topic of investigations, ghosts, and research, but the encounter is funnier than the joke in my opinion.

I just had an interaction on Twitter that made my night. This is only one of two times a celebrity that I enjoy has responded to a tweet of mine. However, this time was slightly different. I did not tweet directly to him nor did I expect a response in any form. Since, I was more than a little sarcastic in the reply (to someone I don't know) I did expect a few hate mail responses, blocks, or unfollows.

Here is what happened with actual Twitter times and names:

Kellie Arany @ParalelieKellie
Me: "I'll have a coke." Waitress: "Is Pepsi ok?" Me: "Is Monopoly money ok?"
1:15 PM - 09 Nov 12

(Here is where I shook my head and grumbled something to my friends about people stealing jokes as their own. Miss Kellie claims to be a "Ghost Hunter extraordinaire" but if she's willing to steal someone's rather famous joke who is to say she wouldn't fake evidence or steal it to make it hers? I couldn't resist. I replied under my paranormal research group account.)

Nichole Hill @WNCPRS
@ParalelieKellie John Caparulo actually. But nice try. :)
5:36 PM - 09 Nov 12

(Now I don't mind that someone has repeated a joke. I don't begrudge her trying to be funny on Twitter. That's why jokes are funny because you can repeat them. However, I have never told a joke as my own that I heard. I usually mention the name of the comedian or say something like "I heard that joke from..." after I tell it.)

Here is the response that I did not expect at all:

John Caparulo favorited
48m : @ParalelieKellie John Caparulo actually. But nice try. :)

(I had to respond to such a profound favorite. I mean, what are the chances that he would have saw that particular post. I verified that he was actually Mr. Caparulo first which Twitter has a nice little blue check mark that tells you it's true.)

Nichole Hill @WNCPRS
@JohnCaparulo just watching out for one of my fave comedians! Thanks for the star.
6:39 PM - 09 Nov 12

His reply:
John Caparulo @JohnCaparulo
@WNCPRS appreciate it!
6:40 PM - 09 Nov 12

(To which I favorited the appreciation.)

(DISCLAIMER: Please do not tweet the poor woman or send her any hate mail. I mean no harm to her character as I do not know her personally. She has already been reminded of what it means to be honest because people ARE watching whether one knows it or not.)

Is it wrong to plead with the "Ghost Adventures" crew to come visit?

"Please, please, please, come to visit us in North Carolina, we are a hot bed of activity. Did you know that the one of the last formal surrenders the during the civil war was right here in Franklin, NC? You can also check out the Biltmore in Asheville while you are here, Americas Castle. We love you guys! Sincerely, WNC Paranormal Research Society."
I thought perhaps a little bribery of promised hauntings would do the trick. If you are reading this post guys, please let us know you are in town, we would love to pick your brains.
Yeah yeah, I know. I have sunk to a new low with this one. But who doesn't want Zak, Aaron, and Nick, coming to their hometown? Even if you don't care for their tactics or investigative techniques you have to admit they aren't bad to look at. Right?
